Joseph Wardenski is a senior litigation associate at Relman, Dane & Colfax, PLLC, a national civil rights law firm based in Washington, DC. At RDC, Joe represents organizations and individual victims of discrimination in federal lawsuits under the Fair Housing Act, Title IX, and other civil rights laws. He is lead counsel in Whitaker v. Kenosha Unified School District, a Title IX lawsuit challenging a Wisconsin school district’s discrimination against a transgender student. Before joining RDC, Joe served for six years as a trial attorney in the Educational Opportunities Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he handled education discrimination and school desegregation cases. While at DOJ, Joe co-chaired the Civil Rights Division’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) Working Group, which advises the Division’s leadership on legal and policy issues relating to discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex status, and HIV/AIDS status. Earlier in his career, Joe was a litigation associate at Davis, Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York. He received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, Master in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and A.B. from Princeton University.
